Nutcracker Gala set for Nov. 12

The Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Co. will host the second annual Nutcracker Gala and Benefit Auction Sunday, Nov. 12, at Cortland Mansion in Hagerstown. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

The gala will serve as a fundraiser to enhance the performance and educational activities of this nonprofit, pre-professional company.

The evening will include an assortment of food courtesy of Liz Hopkinson and Palate Pleasers, raffles, and silent and live auctions. A short performance by the ballet company will round out the event.

Many valuable and unique items have been donated for the auction, including:

· Several getaway packages

· Ski package from Ski Liberty

· Memberships and services from local fitness clubs

· Gift certificates from a number of area restaurants

· Services such as interior house painting

· Portraits from local photographers


· Ski or snowboard package from Bikle's Ski Shop

· A guitar signed by Van Morrison

· Autographed playbills and movie scripts from a number of movies, including "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Horrors," "Mean Girls" and "Phantom of the Opera."

· Autographed baseball bat signed by Baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson.

PCYBC will present its annual "Nutcracker" production at The Maryland Theatre on Saturday Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. Guests from the Joffrey Ballet will be a part of the production.
