Berkeley Springs upsets No. 5 McConnellsburg

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Matt Martin scored his second of two goals in overtime to lead Berkeley Springs to a 4-3 victory over No. 5 McConnellsburg on Saturday.

Josh Wise added a goal on a penalty kick and Ian Whimbley scored for the Indians (7-6-5). Peter Welch had two assists and Matt Sugg made 23 saves.

Evan Mellott had two goals and Jarred Appleby had a goal and an assist for McConnelsburg and Chance Carbaugh had six saves.

McConnellsburg outshot Berkeley Springs, 19-12.

No. 1 Jefferson 4, Wheeling Park 1

WHEELING, W.Va. - Matt Tiano had a goal and an assist while D.J. Upson, Aaron Kelly and Chris Lambert each added a goal for Jefferson (16-0-1). Graham Sutherland and Chris Geigel had an assist apiece.

Vinnie Crumone scored for Wheeling Park.

St. James 2, No. 7 Grace 0

SAINT JAMES - Colin McWilliams scored twice and St. James, in a break from its brutal Mid Atlantic Conference schedule, shut out Grace Academy.

McWilliams made it 1-0 in the 20th minute on an assist from Ben Farquhar. Tory Gogoll found McWilliams in the 60th minute for a 2-0 lead.

Richard Salmons made eight saves to notch the shutout for the Saints (3-8-1). Grace falls to 10-2-1.

No. 7 Williamsport 1, Goretti 1

Sandra Maina scored for St. Maria Goretti (2-11-1) and Andrea Buckner recorded 18 saves.

Leah Mellott scored for Williamsport (3-4-1).

Berkeley Springs 1, McConnellsburg 0

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Corrie Riffle scored in the 29th minute for the match's only goal as Berkeley Springs held off McConnellsburg.

The goal was Riffle's 20th of the season, joining Rebecca Trump to give the Indians two 20-goal scorers.

Amanda Waltman collected her fifth shutout of the season with 10 saves for the Indians (11-6-1).

On Thursday, Berkeley Springs defeated Keyser 3-1 as Riffle and Trump each had a goal and an assist. Morgan Young also scored a goal.

Mercersburg 1, Blair 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Kristina Trudeau scored on a header for Mercersburg Academy as the Blue Storm defeated Blair in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League matchup.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Colin Jones had 105 rushing yards, including a 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of Mercersburg Academy's Mid-Atlantic Prep League loss to Blair Academy (1-2).

A.J. Firestone kicked a 40-yard field goal for the Blue Storm (0-6, 0-3).
