Appalachian Heritage Festival

The festival's theme is "Roots and Resistance. Headlining today's concert is Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys. Saturday's concert will feature David Morris and Elaine Purkey. Free workshops and activities will be held all day Saturday on the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. Today and Saturday, concerts at 8 p.m. Each concert costs $5 to $15. Fly-in and Fairchild Aircraft reunion

See how aircraft are repaired, maintained and painted. View a display featuring part of the Hagerstown Aviation Museum's collection. Hedgesville Heritage Day

Barnyard Jamboree

Saturday's activities include food, antique tractors at 8 a.m., fishing derby hosted by MIHI at 9 a.m., equestrian riding demonstrations, children's games, petting zoo, bake sale, wagon rides and a silent auction. Sunday features a morning praise and worship service at 10:30 a.m., a groundbreaking ceremony at 12:30 p.m., antique tractor parade, model horse show. Saturday and Sunday. Infantry weekend

Living history volunteers from the 23rd Virginia Infantry will re-create the life of a Civil War soldier. Apple Butter Festival

The 33rd annual Apple Butter Festival will feature demonstrations of apple butter making, vendors and entertainment. Bricks from the Morgan County Courthouse, which was destroyed in an Aug. 8 fire, will be sold for $10 each. A parade will be Saturday at 9 a.m., beginning at Berkeley Springs High School and ending at the old train station on William Street.
