FREDERICK, Md. - City officials say there's good reason for teenagers to be in the streets of Frederick all day Saturday, during the city's 24th annual In the Street festival.

The entertainment-laden event is scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, on Market Street from All Saints Street to Seventh Street and along the Carroll Creek Linear Park. In the Street tends to draw about 50,000 people per year, but 65,000 attended last year, said Jennifer Martin, marketing and events coordinator for the City of Frederick. She said the addition of the skateboard section should lure more teens.

"We had the young kids, we had the parents, but we didn't have the teenagers," Martin said.

In addition to the festival's usual fare - eight themed blocks and six stages of performers - there's going to be a skate park set up downtown, with live alternative rock and emo bands, and more, Martin said.

Skating isn't the only thing going on Saturday. Other activities include wine tasting and a deck party for adults and a children's area at the park during the day.
