Mosquito spraying slated for Franklin Co.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled mosquito spraying in Franklin County, Pa., after four more mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus on Tuesday.

Trucks are scheduled to spray Biomist 3+15 in Quincy, Greene and Southampton townships today.

The latest mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile virus were found in the Borough of Waynesboro and Greene, Southampton and Washington townships. They bring the county's total positives to 63 for the year, which is 40 more positive samples than any other Pennsylvania county.

Grant program meeting scheduled for Tuesday

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Main Street Waynesboro Inc. will hold an informational meeting on the Downtown Business Incentive Grant program on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. in the Elk's Club Ballroom at 66 W. Main St. Coffee and danish will be provided.

The moderator of the program will be MaryBeth Hockenberry, executive director of the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce and administrator of the program.


Current Main Street business owners and prospective business owners are encouraged to come and learn more about the economic incentives provided by the grant. The incentives include rent rebates, owner/operator funding and build out/renovation matching grants. Register before Oct. 9 by calling Main Street Waynesboro at 717-762-0397.

Book sale to offer selection of 6,000

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A used book sale at Trinity Lutheran Church will offer more than 6,000 volumes of fiction, nonfiction and a wide range of topics.

The sale will be at the church at 1186 Jason Drive in Greencastle Thursday through Saturday.

The hours for the sale are Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Saturday is bag day with each bag full of books costing $6. Buy three bags and get one bag free.

During the past several weeks, the books have been donated to the church. For the first time, Trinity has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County and other Lutheran churches to collect books for this annual sale.

A lunch stand will be available. All funds raised will be given to Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County and other charitable organizations.
