October receives two designations

The month of October received two designations Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners.

The County Commissioners named the month Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Disability Awareness Month.

The first proclamation was intended to urge all residents to "recognize, understand and respond to the needs of family violence victims within our community, because it should not hurt to go home," according to the proclamation.

Through Disability Awareness Month, governments and the private sector are urged to recognize the abilities of all people, regardless of physical or mental limitations, according to information provided by the county.

Three named to management board

Three people were appointed to the Local Management Board Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners.

Mindy Sorenson, Erin Teach and Anne Martin were appointed as community representatives.

Pa. engineering firm receives contract

A York, Pa., engineering firm received a $3.6 million contract Tuesday from the Washington County Commissioners.

The County Commissioners hired Buchart-Horn Inc. to provide engineering and construction project management for enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) upgrades at county wastewater treatment plants.


The ENR upgrades are required by the state.
