Smithsburg EMS calls outlined

SMITHSBURG - In September, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Inc. responded to 86 calls, bringing the 2006 total to 810 responses.

Of the 86 calls for September, 10 were to Frederick County, Md., and two were to Franklin County, Pa. There were 15 calls in the Smithsburg town limits, 11 calls in the Hagerstown area and eight each in Cascade and the Leitersburg area.

The most common type of call was for vehicle/pedestrian accidents, which accounted for 12 calls, according to Capt. James Ulrich.

A total of 54 patients were taken to area hospitals during the month, including two flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter.

Emergency calls during July and August totaled 161.

Of the calls for July and August, 11 were to Frederick County and seven were to Franklin County. There were 31 calls in the Smithsburg town limits, 18 calls in the Hagerstown area, nine in Cascade and 23 in the Mount Aetna area.

Another 18 calls were to the Leitersburg area.

The most common type of call was for vehicle/pedestrian accidents, totaling 18.

During July and August, 114 patients were taken to several area hospitals.
