You Said It

"I have a friend who says when the Republicans are ready to give up their Medicare and their Social Security, which the Democrats got for them, he then will become a Republican."

"I agree with the person that says that we should vote 'no' for the charter home rule. I also think that Washington County needs monitored by the state."

"I'm calling in reference to Wednesday, Sept. 27's headlines on the front page, 'GOP slams Donoghue fundraiser.' When are the people in this county going to recognize there can't be any worse scandal than the Republican fundraisers. Every fundraiser they have, the president flies around the country spending taxpayers' dollars, raising money for the Republicans, and that is absolutely marvelous. I don't care how Donoghue raises his money, as long as it's legal. It's time for the Republicans to quit crying and whining and accept the fact that Donoghue is here to stay. He's going to beat this guy handily, and the Republicans had best realize that."

"If the former Democrat now turned Republican candidate for delegate 2C thinks that the teachers have forgotten what he did to their pensions, he is very much mistaken."

- Hagerstown

"It seems (football player Terrell Owens did something) and it's been all-day coverage. Meanwhile, two Americans die every day in Iraq. It's a shame they don't get that kind of coverage. More than 3,000 coalition forces are now dead. More than five Americans have already died this week. No one seems to care about them. You don't see them getting coverage. America's priorities are totally skewed - at least the media's."

- Sharpsburg

"My comment about the 'Mission accomplished' on the Abraham Lincoln was not a right-wing excuse. It was the truth. I was in the military. I was in the Navy. I know these types of banners are hung on ships when the missions are accomplished. Your response to my call is nothing but a typical response from someone who has never even been in the military."

"Some of the stuff I've seen in (You Said It) lately concerns me. It's plain to see that some of the people in this area lack sex education. I don't think they know the difference between sexuality and gender. A person does not choose to become a homosexual. That's just plain crazy. It's insulting to the intelligent people. I'm a heterosexual, as (are) most of you. Ask yourself, could you become a homosexual just because you want to?"

- Hagerstown

"Hurray, hurray, for President Clinton. Thank God he finally went and told those Republicans and that Fox radio channel off. It's about time. I applaud him for it."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to respond to the writer from Falling Waters, W.Va., who advocates getting off the sofa and protesting this war. As an old veteran of the 8th Army Airborne, 82nd Airborne, I'd rather get off the sofa and protest cowards like him who'd rather move to Canada than fight for their own country."

"The two lights on the new bridge at Shepherdstown are out, and the clock in Sharpsburg square is still six minutes slow."

"The stated reason for going to war in Iraq was because they allegedly had WMDs. Since we have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Iraqis did not have WMDs, and there has been so much needless men and women dying every day in Iraq, can the families left behind then sue the federal government for wrongful death? I don't see why not, because they were led astray by George."

"I was just reading in the paper where Hillary Clinton was criticizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over comments about Bill Clinton not getting bin Laden. She was sticking up for her husband. Hillary Clinton is no Condoleezza Rice. Rice has far more intelligence than Hillary Clinton. I wish that Rice would run for President against Hillary Clinton. It would be not a close call at all."

- Boonsboro

"I noticed that the host committee for the family rally with Gov. Ehrlich is a combination of people in the community that are upper-middle class and upper class - doctors and people in the community who have money. I hope that on Nov. 7, the working class and the lower-class people in this community join together and vote for Martin O'Malley, and I hope people do the same across the state."

- Hagerstown

"The letter to the editor from Middletown in Wednesday's paper was excellent. It pointed out that opposing the war in Iraq does not make one a supporter of terrorism. Because of our invasion of Iraq, we are definitely less safe, and in more danger of terrorist attacks. We were respected by all countries at one time, and now we are considered ruthless aggressors, and have lost the respect of most of the other nations. Bush went into the presidency with a surplus, and now our deficit is greater than it has ever been in history - even during the Civil War. History will show the Bush administration as being the worst ever."
