Jefferson grad burns Mercersburg

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Lawrenceville postgraduate quarterback Patrick Burns, a 2006 Jefferson High grad, threw touchdown passes of 64 and 33 yards to lead the Big Red to their first victory this season, a 28-14 win over winless Mercersburg Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Kenny Burns threw two touchdown passes for Mercersburg (0-5) - one each to Cameron Jones and Colin Jones - while Zach Hart had six receptions for 69 yards, Cameron Jones had 15 tackles and Tyler Mort added 13 tackles.

Lawrenceville is 1-3.

Fort Hill 14, No. 7 Hedgesville 7

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Rich Shook scored from the 1 with 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter to bolster a pair of Levi Mallow field goals to lead Fort Hill to a Cumberland Valley Athletic League win over Hedgesville.

The Sentinels (4-0, 2-0) rushed for 202 yards en route to building the 14-0 lead. Scott Rice led with 81.

Hedgesville scored early in the fourth quarter when Taylor Hockman hit Jordan Reed with a 35-yard scoring pass, but the Eagles (2-4, 0-2) couldn't get the tying score.

Hockman hit on 5 of 20 passes for 116 yards.

St. James 35, Potomac School 19

McLEAN, Va. - Jimmy Sutch ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns and St. James defeated Potomac School in a Mid Atlantic Conference game.

The Saints (1-3, 1-1) scored three touchdowns in nearly 5 minutes in the second quarter, capitalizing on Potomac turnovers.

Idara Umoren scored on a 3-yard run and Sutch scored on runs of 13, 15 and 16 yards.

Tucker Smoot scored on an 11-yard pass from Mike Russ in the Saints' victory.
