Heart failure is cause of man's death in crash

September 30, 2006

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Waynesboro man whose car crashed into the Frick Co. property Thursday night died of heart failure, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said.

"It's actually a natural death resulting in an accident," Conner said Friday of the death of Charles D. Diehl, 87, of 231 W. North St. "The cause of death is being listed as acute cardiac failure."

The accident occurred at 6:53 p.m. when Diehl was driving a car out of an alley adjacent to the VFW post on West Main Street, Conner said. Instead of turning, the car continued north across West Main Street, through a fence, down an embankment and over a wall before landing on its roof, according to the Waynesboro Police Department.

West Main Street was closed Thursday night while police and Conner investigated the incident.
