Man charged after incident at nightclub

A man accused of hitting two other men with a golf club in a fight outside a Hagerstown nightclub was arrested after police found a set of golf clubs in his car, according to a charging document.

A hearing for Lance Michael Turner, 22, of 13067 Independence Road in Clear Spring, who is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and using a deadly weapon to cause injury, was postponed Thursday so he could obtain a lawyer, according to Washington County District Court records.

According to a charging document, one of two men injured in a fight Sept. 1 outside Cancun Cantina on Dual Highway told police Turner was one of the men who hit them with a golf club.

When police arrived at the scene at 1:13 a.m., they found one man bleeding heavily from his head. A second man, who had a large bruise on the back of his leg, told police three men had approached his friend and him and began hitting them with a golf club, according to the document.

At Washington County Hospital, the victim with the head injuries told police one man held him down while another man hit him with the club for no reason, according to the document.

After interviewing the victims, police spoke to Turner, who claimed another man hit him with a golf club, but he had no injuries, according to the document.

Police found the head of a golf club lying against a curb in the parking lot and a set of golf clubs in Turner's vehicle, according to the document.

A doctor told police one of the victims could have had a skull fracture and would undergo a CAT scan, according to the document.

Police: Woman tried to conceal cocaine

A woman who exhibited symptoms of drug overdose allegedly tried to conceal cocaine as Washington County Hospital nurses attempted to treat her, according to a Washington County District Court charging document.

Kimberly Sue Hopkins, 19, of 323 N. Locust St. in Hagerstown, was charged with three counts of possession of drugs other than marijuana, four counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and one count of possession of controlled dangerous substances with the intent to distribute narcotics, according to court records.

According to the charging document, a police officer called for an ambulance on Monday at 12:07 a.m. after observing Hopkins stumbling and clenching her chest in the first block of West Church Street. Hopkins told the officer she had taken two Xanax and snorted "some" cocaine, according to the document.

According to the charging document, Hopkins squirmed in her hospital bed as nurses tried to insert a catheter. Police who had gone to the hospital with her found two bags containing substances like crack cocaine between her legs. Another bag was tossed underneath the hospital curtain as Hopkins undressed when she first was admitted, and two yellow straws with suspected cocaine were found lying near her clothes, according to the document.

Hopkins was at Washington County Hospital on Thursday, a deputy said. Her bail has been set at $100,000, he said.
