Shepherd music series to offer diverse lineup

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Guest Artist Series at Shepherd University can give fine music lovers their fix for the fall, winter and spring, the event's organizers say.

The Guest Artist Series kicks off today at the school's Frank Center with a performance by the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble. The five-concert series includes performances by the Chamber Orchestra of the Kremlin and pianist Brian Ganz, who will play the music department's Fazioli piano - like the Stradivarius of pianos - to close out the series on April 5.

The music series is hosted by the Friends of Music, the nonprofit fundraising arm for Shepherd University's music department. Money generated from the series goes back to music programing, instruments and scholarships, said Barbara Spicher, operations manager for the music department and Friends of Music board member.

All shows start at 8 p.m. Those who purchase the season subscription package - a $66 bundle that includes admission to all five concerts in the series - can view for free two out of three additional shows not included with the series. Those shows include: the annual Holiday Gala and reception, the Children's Holiday Concert and the Jazz Festival Guest Artist concert.

The Guest Artist Series schedule is:

· Tonight - Western Wind Ensemble

· Friday, Oct. 27 - Chamber Orchestra of the Kremlin

· Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 - Faculty Showcase

· Thursday, Feb. 22 - D'Amore Duo

· Thursday, April 5 - Fabulous Fazioli Concert featuring Brian Ganz
