September 27, 2006|by TARA REILLY

Washington County students attending the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown will be eligible for scholarships paid for by the county.

The County Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to give $25,000 toward the scholarships.

The money will be eligible for a match from the Waltersdorf/Henson Endowment, Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook said.

Snook praised the efforts of the education center.

"It's a really good program, and they work really hard," Snook said. "I hope we can support them as we go forward."

The commissioners voted unanimously on the scholarship money, which they also gave last year.

"I support it, too, but I hope the public does," Commissioner John C. Munson said.
