Jeremy Ruppert had a goal and an assist to lead Hagerstown Community College past Chesapeake.

Mitchell Rodriguez also had a goal for the Hawks (2-6), who had a 14-6 edge in shots.

Hood 2, Frostburg State 1

FREDERICK, Md. - Tom Noonan and Marcelino Rabara each scored to lead Hood.

Ben Snyder and David Wilson each had an assist for the Blazers (4-5).

Kenny Dotter scored for the Bobcats (3-6).

Shepherd ranked 8th in region poll

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University (5-4-1) is ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II Appalachian Region Poll for Sept. 26.



Shepherd in Great Lakes Regional

Shepherd University competed in the 2006 NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional, with six Rams earning victories.

In the singles 'A' draw, Casey Moser reached the second round before losing in a tiebreak, while Arthur Ebeling won a consolation match. Bobby Sisson lost in the quarterfinals and Scott Hasenei won a consolation match in the singles 'B' draw.

In 'A' doubles, Moser and Felipe Oliveira lost in the first round and rebounded with a victory in the consolation round. Ebeling and Sisson reached the quarterfinals of the doubles 'B' draw, while Andy Bosco and Hasenei lost in the first round and won a consolation match.


Golfers record aces

At the MISGA Tournament at Beaver Creek, 71-year-old Harold Higman recorded his first hole-in-one. He used a 9-wood on the par-3, 118-yard No. 3 to ace the hole. He was playing with Si Phillips and Maurice Ahalt.

Also at Beaver Creek, Sam Wade recorded a hole-in-one on Sept. 16, using a 7-iron on the 144-yard No. 7. He was playing with Dixie McNaney, Bill Russell and Bob Fisher.

At Whitetail Golf Club in Mercersburg, Pa., Randy Poffenberger, of Clear Spring, had a hole-in-one on the 115-yard 14th hole, using a pitching wedge. He was playing with his wife, Jill Poffenberger.

Ryder Cup results

Beaver Creek conducted its Ryder Cup tournament this past Saturday and Sunday with four 14-man teams competing in various formats.

Led by captain Tim Steiner, the winning team consisted of Bob Verdeyen, Jeff Snowden, Bob Fisher, Todd Parks, Kyle Butler, Rod Steiner, John Bowman, Scott Alexander, Oyvind Pettersen, Jerry Blickenstaff, Paul Babineau, Max Tissue and Tubby Stotler.


Wrestling officials meeting

A mandatory rules interpretation meeting for those wishing to officiate high school or junior league wrestling in Maryland will be held Oct. 10 at North Hagerstown High School, beginning at 7 p.m.

Waynesboro YMCA coed volleyball

Registration for the Waynesboro Area YMCA fall/winter coed volleyball league has been extended to Oct. 23.
