Woman stabs herself with fork at Hagerstown salon

September 27, 2006

A woman stabbed herself with a fork at a North Burhans Boulevard hair and nail salon Tuesday morning, but sustained only a "few faint puncture wounds," Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Paul Kifer said.

Police were dispatched to Hair, Nails & Spa at 140 N. Burhans Blvd. at 10:11 a.m. for a reported stabbing, but later discovered with the help of a Vietnamese interpreter that it was a woman who actually had stabbed herself, he said.

"It was more for show than anything," Kifer said.

Police had been circling Burhans Plaza looking for a stabbing victim before an interpreter translated the story.

Kifer said that the former girlfriend of the man who runs the store stabbed herself with the fork after a new female salon worker was brought to the salon Tuesday morning.

No charges were filed.

"All parties were advised to stay away from each other," Kifer said.
