The issue: Inmate Brandon Morris was indicted in the Jan. 26 shooting of Roxbury Correctional Institution Officer Jeffery Alan Wroten in a Washington County Hospital room. Wroten died Jan. 27. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty if Morris is convicted on any of three first-degree murder counts. Morris pleaded not guilty to the charges.

What's new: Washington County Circuit Judge Frederick C. Wright III, the court's administrative judge, ordered Morris' case transferred to Howard County for trial. Wright found Sept. 20 that Morris exercised his right to have his case moved to another county under the Maryland constitution, which grants automatic removal to those who face the death penalty.

What's next: Howard County Circuit Judge Diane O. Leasure, the court's administrative judge, will determine which judge will preside over Morris' case and will set court dates.
