Miss Maryland pageant is held in Hagerstown

September 24, 2006

For 35 years, The Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown has been home to the Miss Maryland Scholarship Pageant.

On July 1, Brittany Lietz, Miss Tidewater, was crowned Miss Maryland 2006. Lietz was one of 24 women to compete for the 71st state crown. She will compete in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant in 2007.

The Miss America Organization plans to air a two-hour special following all 52 of the '07 Miss America contestants through the preliminary competitions. Taping was to begin in September in Los Angeles. The special will air on CMT in January 2007, just before the 2007 Miss America contest airs live.

To compete in the Miss Maryland Scholarship Pageant, according to local rules, the would-be contestant must first win a local pageant. Contestants must be Maryland residents for at least six months and should have graduated from high school by June 30, 2007. Contestants cannot be older than 24 by Oct. 31, 2007. They must be at least 17 to compete.
