Washington County Championships

North Hagerstown tied the Washington County Boys Soccer Tournament final in the 78th minute, and the Hubs won the penalty shootout 3-0 to defeat Smithsburg at School Stadium on Saturday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the final minutes, Matt Unger's shot was deflected by a Smithsburg player and went into the goal to tie the game.

Josh Edwards scored off a Mark Vomend assist to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. All three of Smithsburg's attempts in the shootout were off the mark.

In the girls final, twin sisters Maria and Stephanie Borland scored second-half goals to lift No. 2 North to a 3-1 victory over No. 1 Smithsburg for the Hubs' third straight county title.

Smithsburg (3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute on a goal by Katie Seifarth.

North (5-0) tied the game in the 38th minute on a goal by Courtney Whorten, assisted by Stephanie Borland.
