September 23, 2006

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - About 2,000 people had visited the 31st fall Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festival by early afternoon Friday, the first of the three-day event, executive director Mary Via said.

From folk art and decorative painting to pottery toys, rugs and stained glass, Via estimated more than 200 artisans are participating in the popular event, which includes musical entertainment and activities for children, including a moon bounce and pony rides.

The festival at Sam Michaels Park, off Job Corps Road about five miles from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., opens today and Sunday at 10 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.

"I hope they leave here with a smile," Via said. "I hope they've enjoyed it."
