Police warn of debris falling from vehicles

September 21, 2006

Debris falling from vehicles headed to the Washington County landfill has prompted the Sheriff's Department to begin an education program for motorists dropping off garbage.

According to a press release, deputies will be at the entrance of the landfill periodically beginning next week to hand out leaflets addressing state laws on transporting loose and covered loads. The department will follow up with enforcement of the laws, if necessary, after the public education period is over.

According to the release, the County Commissioners have received multiple complaints on debris falling on the road.
