September 19, 2006|by JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The family who once farmed Happel's Meadow Wetland Preserve has pledged $6,000 to the Washington Township (Pa.) Supervisors' possible purchase of property abutting the preserve, according to a letter from Richard Happel Jr.

Pledges now total $21,000, Township Manager Michael Christopher told the supervisors on Monday.

The property is being appraised for the township, which would apply for a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant by the end of September to fund part of the purchase.

The Pennersville Road land in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., has been surveyed for 18 single-family houses proposed by Kylea and Associates Inc. of Mercersburg, Pa.
