Ground broken for Northgate at Menno Haven

September 17, 2006

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - More than 200 residents, staff members and guests gathered recently for the groundbreaking for Northgate at Menno Haven.

"This day has not come too soon for all the people who have worked so hard and made many, many decisions," Dale Clugston, Menno Haven chairman, said in a prepared release.

"Everything in this project was designed around the needs and well-being of our active senior adults today and a facility that will fulfill those needs well into the future," he said.

Northgate is to be a complex with luxury apartments and a community center. It is being built by Mowery and Sons Inc. under architect Noelker and Hull Associates Inc.

The ridge below, offering a view of Conococheague Creek, is Northfield's westernmost location and is already home to 76 villas.

Northgate Apartments and Commons will be a 53-unit apartment complex for senior adults featuring a community center complete with a health club, whirlpool spa, library and business center, large lap swimming pool, club room with billiards, bistro caf and restaurant-style dining.

Work will begin before threatening weather, after which the interior work will continue throughout the winter.

Anticipated occupancy is expected before winter 2007, according to the release.
