Mary McGinley, daughter of Michael and Susan McGinley of Hagerstown, was this year's recipient of the Denise Cushwa Schupp Scholarship. Named in honor of a 1976 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School who passed away in November 1991, the scholarship honors an incoming female freshman who received the highest score of her peers. The annual scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Jean Cushwa, mother of Denise Cushwa Schupp, also of Hagerstown. Mary is a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School.

Nicholas Munson, son of Stanley and Eileen Munson of Hagerstown, received the Christopher C. Schoen Memorial Scholarship. Named in honor of a 1975 graduate of Goretti, the scholarship is conferred, in conjunction with the Schupp scholarship, on an incoming freshman male who scored the highest on the Archdiocesan High School Placement Test. Joan Baer, mother of Christopher Schoen, established the scholarship to honor her son who passed away in 1991. Nicholas is also a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School.

Both scholarships were established in 1992 and are annually awarded to two incoming freshmen. The Archdiocesan High School Placement Test is required of all incoming freshmen.

The daughter of Rodney and Lucinda Rector is a 2006 graduate of Clear Spring High School, where she participated in band, cheerleading, golf, volleyball and softball and was a member of the National Honor Society. She is majoring in pre-law at FSU and plans to become a lawyer.
