The Iron Brigade is the topic of Antietam anniversary talk

The legendary "Iron Brigade" and its role in the Battle of Antietam will be the topic of a lecture by author Lance Herdegen at 7 p.m. Friday at the Antietam National Battlefield Visitor Center. This brigade of regiments from Wisconsin and Indiana saw some of the heaviest fighting during the "Morning Phase" of the battle.

Herdegen is a Wisconsin native and a well-known author and lecturer. His critically acclaimed book, "The Men Stood Like Iron: How the Iron Brigade Won Its Name," will be on sale at the Antietam Museum Store in the Visitor Center. After the lecture, Herdegen will be available to sign his book.
