Fire damages cabin on Mount Aetna Road

A fire involving a recreational cabin caused more than $100,000 in estimated damages at a church camp on Mount Aetna Road, according to a press release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

A neighbor alerted authorities to the structure fire about 3 a.m. Monday at 21905 Mount Aetna Road, the fire marshal said. Seven firefighters responded, and the fire was brought under control within five minutes. The cause was under investigation, the fire marshal said.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damages to the structure of the cabin and $5,000 in damages to the contents, the fire marshal said.

The fire marshal is asking anyone with information about the fire to call 301-791-4758.

Boy assaulted, robbed on Pa. playground

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg police were investigating a strong-arm robbery Monday night at the Mary B. Sharpe Elementary School playground.


Police said a 17-year-old boy was in the playground at about 7:45 p.m. when he was approached by two black men in their 20s. One of the men punched the boy in the face and took money from his pants pocket, police said.

The assailant was about 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a medium build and short hair and was wearing baggy black jeans with white stripes and a white T-shirt, police said. The victim could not describe the other man, police said.

Home burglary investigated in Pa.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough police were investigating a residential burglary in the 600 block of Orchard Drive.

Police said the house was entered between 4 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Police did not indicate if anything was stolen.

Purse stolen from Pa. woman's home

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police were investigating a theft at a Guilford Township woman's home that occurred between 12:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Police said a black L.L. Bean purse, $220 in cash, a silver cross pen and a matching pen and pencil set were stolen from a woman's home in the 1300 block of Garman Drive. The items were worth about $350, police said.

Man charged with indecent exposure

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A New Jersey man has been charged with exposing himself to a woman on Interstate 81 Saturday.

Police said a charge of indecent exposure was filed with Magisterial District Judge Duane Cunningham's office against Edward Samuel Martin III of Tabernacle, N.J. Police said he exposed himself to a woman motorist from York, Pa., at about 5:40 p.m.

The incident happened on the northbound lanes in Antrim Township, police said.

Woman taken to hospital after fire

FAIRPLAY - An older woman at a home where firefighters responded to a call of a potentially serious fire was taken to Washington County Hospital, a Williamsport firefighter said Tuesday.

Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co. Capt. Will Ball said he was not certain whether the woman taken from the Lappans Road home was affected by the smoke in the home or suffering from a medical condition.

According to Ball, firefighters from Fairplay, Williamsport, Halfway, Funks-town and Sharpsburg discovered only a "light smoke condition" when they arrived at the home, where a cigarette had apparently fallen onto oxygen tubing while the victim slept. The accident caused damage to the tubing and a burn on a patch of carpenting, he said.

A Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said the incident at 17637 Lappans Road was reported at 7:38 a.m., and the scene was cleared at 11:12 a.m.

Ball said he did not know the seriousness of the woman's condition.

Man, three boys charged with burglary

FREDERICK, Md. - A 19-year-old and three boys, ages 15, 16 and 17, were charged with burglary after the group allegedly entered a vacant apartment in Frederick, police said.

Jarrel Gray and the boys, all of Frederick, were charged with fourth-degree burglary after a male allegedly was seen Thursday evening exiting a Frederick Villas Apartment on Ladd Court. Three other males allegedly were found inside, a press release states.

W.Va. man charged with sex offense

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 34-year-old Martinsburg, W.Va., man was being held at Eastern Regional Jail on a felony sex offense Monday night.

Bond was set at $25,000 for the man, who was charged with sexual abuse by a guardian. He was in jail Monday night, a deputy clerk said.

Police: Two males hurt in knife fight

Two males were treated and released from Washington County Hospital after they were injured in a fight Monday afternoon, Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. David Long said.

During a fight between the two males about 5 p.m. outside Perkins Restaurant & Bakery on Dual Highway, one male pulled a knife, allegedly cutting the other male, Long said. In the struggle over the knife, the suspect also was cut, he said.

The victim fled in a vehicle with someone else, but police found him near Antietam Street, Long said. No one had been charged as of Monday night, he said.

Woman charged in road rage incident
