Woodmen honor 9/11 heroes, victims

Woodmen of the World Lodge 1 conducted a patriotic ceremony Friday, Sept. 8, at the Washington County Sheriff's Department to honor the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and to salute the local heroes who protect the community.

The ceremony, called In Honor and Remembrance - Woodmen Salutes America's Heroes, included recognition of police officers, firefighters, members of the armed forces and others who safeguard the community and the nation.

The program included guest speaker Anthony Jurik, Woodmen area manager, field rep Jean Witmer and members of the Sheriff's Department. Also in attendance were Doug Mullendore, Randy Wilkinson, Jon Witmer and Rich Poffenberger.

This was the fifth year Woodmen of the World sponsored the event. The ceremonies included the dedication of flagpoles and commemorative plaques, and the presentation of the American flag.
