MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man charged with felony murder in the Aug. 30 death of his stepmother waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday morning in Berkeley County Magistrate Court.

Thomas Anthony Dawson waived his hearing before Berkeley County Magistrate JoAnn Overington.

Dawson, 21, of 343 Blair St., in the Berkeley Village subdivision, will have his case presented to a grand jury, Sgt. Eric Burnett of the West Virginia State Police said.

Jeannette K. Dawson, of 345 Blair St., was found dead in the bedroom of her mobile home Aug. 30.

Thomas Anthony Dawson admitted in an interview with police that he repeatedly struck his 41-year-old stepmother in the head with a claw hammer after she interfered with his burglary of the home, according to a criminal complaint filed by State Police Sgt. D.E. Boober.

Police said the accused had been residing with his father's parents in a mobile home next door to the victim.
