Town house project stalls in Washington Township

September 12, 2006|by JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Plans for 159 town houses on Pa. 16 were tabled by the Washington Township (Pa.) Planning Commission on Monday, five months after they were first submitted.

The Glen Oaks development from Summit Partners LLC of West Chester, Pa., will go before the planning commission next month for final approval before being passed to the township supervisors.

A representative of the developer said problems have formed with installing a public sewer line on adjacent property owned by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

"The Eagles were initially receptive to the idea. We met with them three weeks ago, (and) they changed their mind," said John Snyder of the Camp Hill, Pa., engineering firm Rettew. The club also opposed a walking trail on its property, he said.

The development, filled with private streets maintained by a homeowners association, is proposed on 20 acres of the former William Gsell property between the club and 84 Lumber.
