Word Processing Services Inc., a family-owned and operated business in Hagerstown, recently was honored with the 2005 Dealer of Distinction Award from Great America Leasing Corp., its leasing company. This is the second consecutive year WPS has received the award.

WPS is a document management provider with offices in Hagerstown, Altoona, Pa., and Mechanicsburg, Pa., said Vice President Joe Dellaposta. It has been in business since 1973 and has gone from being strictly a copier company to a business that helps companies manage documents, as well as selling and servicing office equipment.

Thanks to digital and computer technology, WPS has the capabilities that enable companies to get rid of rooms full of file cabinets, Dellaposta said.

Lyn Miller, senior vendor relationship manager for Great America Leasing Corp., presented Dellaposta with the award Sept. 6 in conjunction with a corporate sales meeting at WPS' Hagerstown office on Byers Road.

The Dealer of Distinction award is the highest given out by Great America and is given to fewer than 30 dealers nationally, Miller said. It recognizes industry leaders doing $1 million in leasing annually for ethical business practices and a high degree of customer care and loyalty.

"Dealer of Distinction dealers are seen as true partners in the business with us," Miller said. "They have grown their business along with our business."

Last fiscal year, WPS' business increased 121 percent, Dellaposta said. He attributes that to its quick response time, which is usually less than 2 1/2 hours for repair requests.

Dellaposta said Great America Leasing Corp., which is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, provides the financing for WPS customers. With the equipment it sells, ranging in price from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars, Dellaposta said leasing enables customers to have smaller payments than if they purchased the machines.

Leasing also allows customers to stay current with technology by upgrading when the lease runs out, provides them with better cash flow controls and doesn't tie up as much capital.

WPS has 53 employees in its three locations. The company has received the Dealer of Distinction for 2003-04 and 2005. Prior to that, it was awarded the Premier Dealer award three years in a row, which recognizes dealers with $500,000 in leasing.
