St. Mary to install new pastor

September 11, 2006

The Rev. Kevin Mueller will be installed as the new pastor of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown this Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Rev. W. Francis Malooly, western vicar of the Baltimore archdiocese, will perform the installation. A reception will follow.

A 46-year-old Baltimore native, Mueller succeeds the Rev. George Limmer, who retired in June.

Ordained in 1992 from Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., Mueller is a former associate pastor of St. Joseph in Cockeysville, Md., and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middle River, Md.

He also served four years at the Monsignor O'Dwyer Retreat House in Sparks, Md., where he worked with young Catholics.

Mueller said his experience at the retreat center and as a teacher at St. Joseph and Our Lady of Mount Carmel schools will help him reach out to younger parishioners at St. Mary which includes a parish elementary school.

"I think the young people are our future, and I would want to encourage them, and help them feel a part of the church," Mueller said.

Mueller said he has an "easygoing" style and is looking forward to meeting the people of his new 1,200-family faith community.

"I just want to serve the spiritual needs of the parish and to be a part of the parish," Mueller said.
