Police investigate clown in Old National Park

September 10, 2006

FREDERICK, Md. - Police said Friday that they're investigating what a man dressed as a clown was doing in a park with children last month.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Department said the man was seen performing tricks for children at Old National Park off Md. 144.

A parent concerned about the situation on Aug. 25 called Maryland State Police.

Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's department, said the man was with a group of children who were involved in athletic activities at the park. She didn't know how many children or how old they were, but she said they were not having a party.

The man found out that people were asking about him and called the sheriff's department on Thursday to identify himself, Bailey said. He told police that he's hired to dress up as a clown at parties.
