St. James Tournament

ST. JAMES - Clear Spring went 6-0 to win the tournament title, defeating host St. James 25-23, 25-13 in the final match.

The Blazers defeated St. Maria Goretti, Berkeley Springs, Bishop Walsh, and St. James in round-robin play before sweeping Bishop Walsh 25-14, 25-14 in the semifinals.

Mandi Jenkins had 24 kills, 18 aces, nine digs and 34 service points for the Blazers (1-0). Emily Pinkham added 16 kills, Lindsay Lacy had 20 service points and nine kills and Kate Blickenstaff recorded 47 kills. Sarah Holler had 10 digs, Linsee Vincent added eight kills and Heather Higgins tallied seven digs.


Lindsey Gish led St. James with 12 assists, 16 service points and five digs while Callan Spicher had 10 kills and Heather Lowery recorded five kills and nine service points.

All-Tournament members included Jenkins, Spicher, Goretti's Gabby Turano and Berkeley Springs' Ashley Hovermale.

McConnellsburg Tournament

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - North Hagerstown defeated Greencastle 25-11, 22-25, 16-14 in the final.

Kate Zimmer earned tournament MVP honors by leading the Hubs with 57 kills, 30 service points and 15 blocks. Brooke Powell had 49 digs, 30 service points and 24 kills for the Hubs (6-1), while Jen Bowlus had 44 digs and 38 service points. Amelia Plank had 38 digs and 24 service points, Karli Powers had 42 assists and Kelly Toms and Kierra Nelson each had 15 kills.

Katie Lutz had 23 kills and 12 blocks, while Kortney Eshleman added 19 kills and 35 assists for the Blue Devils. Amanda Ritchey had 44 assists and 14 aces and Julia Stein tallied 17 kills.

Rebecca Adams led Broadfording with 25 assists, while Emily Ahalt had 26 digs and 10 kills.


Mercersburg 11, Goretti 0

Valentin Quan, Robert Nagel, Logan Craig and Joshua Rosenblat scored twice each as Mercersburg Academy opened its season with a shutout win over St. Maria Goretti.

Ethan Strickler had a goal and three assists, while Dan Gottlieb added a goal and an assist, David Strider scored and Andrew Reichardt had two saves for the Blue Storm (1-0). Tim Rahauser, Nagel and Craig each had two assists and Chris Marston added one.

Nick Martin recorded eight saves for the Gaels (0-4).


Musselman 4, Berkeley Springs 3

INWOOD, W.Va. - Jennifer Ashton, Brooke Butler, Casey Coles and Rachel Harris scored goals to lift the Applemen past the Indians.

Rebecca Trump had two goals and an assist for Berkeley Springs (4-2-1) in the loss. Corrie Riffle added a goal, Morgan Young had an assist and Amanda Waltman made eight saves.

McConnellsburg 12 Johnstown Christian 1

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Erin Chafardon had five goals and Myrissa Peck scored three as McConnellsburg routed Johnstown Christian for its first victory of the season.

Casey Pollock, Emily Decker, Jenny Buterbaugh and Rachel Porterfield each added a goal for the Spartans, while Sam McQuade had eight saves.


St. James wins tourney

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - St. James posted back-to-back victories on consecutive days to win the Mid-Maryland Invitational Tournament at Linganore High School.

After defeating Walkersville on Friday in the semifinals 2-0, St. James came back to down Linganore on Saturday, 2-1, for the title.

Bishop McDevitt 7, Mercersburg 2

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Arcadia Hartung and Gus Reilly each scored a goal while Mary Lawton recorded 16 saves for Mercersburg Academy (0-1).
