Hubs knock off Smithsburg for first victory

North Hagerstown volleyball coach Megan Crawford got her first match victory Thursday night when the Hubs defeated Washington County rival Smithsburg, 25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19.

"We started off well," Crawford said. "We let up a little bit in the third game. But we came back in the fourth game to get the win. Our serve receiving was a lot better tonight to allow us to set up our offense. We could have folded in the last game, but we didn't. We pushed through to get the victory."

Junior Amelia Plank had 15 service points, including three aces, for North Hagerstown (1-1).

"I just knew that my team wanted me to come through," Plank said. "I just prayed that I would get my serves in. I know that everybody was excited for this match. I think that we showed everybody what our potential is this evening."

We were down by five points in the third game and we came back to win. We were down by 13 points in the fourth game, but we came back and made it a game. We just waited too long."
