Make discipline work

Families Plus! and Frederick County Public Schools' Community Agency School Services will present the following programs on the topic of discipline:

Kathy Ahalt, school counselor at Brunswick Elementary School, will present "1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Brunswick Elementary School, 400 Central Ave., Brunswick, Md. The program is free.

Also, the program "Love and Logic: Successful Discipline" will be presented from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Lewistown Elementary School, 11119 Hessong Bridge Road, Thurmont, Md. The program will help parents and caregivers guide children into safe and appropriate behaviors. The free program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required for dinner and/or child care.

Focus on special education

FREDERICK, Md. -"Understanding Special Education" will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Rock Creek School, 191 Waverley Drive. The program is free.

The USE workshop will help parents understand the special education process and help their children do well in school. Although open to all parents, this workshop is designed for parents with limited English language skills. Spanish interpreters will be available. Advance registration is requested.
