Sex offender accused of molesting child

A 49-year-old registered sex offender allegedly molested a child playing in the toy section of a second-hand store, according to Washington County District Court records.

Rodney Wayne Bible, who is listed on the Maryland Sex Offender Registry for second-degree rape and indecent exposure, allegedly improperly touched a 7-year-old girl as she played with toys at Goodwill Industries at 151 N. Burhans Blvd. on Aug. 25.

When the victim told her mother, who was shopping at the store, what happened, the woman left the store and followed Bible, of 12 East Ave. Apt. 1 in Hagerstown, with her car, and wrote down his vehicle's license plate number.

Bible was charged with third-degree and fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

According to a woman who had lived with him, Bible signed over his car and began packing his belongings in the days after the alleged assault. He told her he planned to go to Cumberland, Md., the charging document states.

Bible was being held at Washington County Detention Center. Bail was set at $250,000, according to court documents.
