Area events planned to remember anniversary of Sept. 11

The following events are being held in conjuction with the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:

John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, will host a joint worship service with Asbury United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The service will feature John Wesley's Chancel Choir, special music from Asbury, and a combined choir under the direction of Ken Stoops, the minister of music at John Wesley.

There will be a time of sharing, a children's message and a morning message, which will include recognition of the Hagerstown Fire Department and local police and emergency medical service personnel.


Hagerstown Community College will hold a 9/11 Remembrance on Monday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. on the patio of the HCC College Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Highlighting the ceremony will be Lester Hammond of Greencastle, Pa., who will speak about his experiences as a soldier in Iraq.

BOONSBORO - A parade to honor the memory of fire, rescue and law enforcement personnel who lost their lives on 9/11 will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11 - the fifth anniversary of the attack.

Also, the men and women currently serving their country or who have lost their lives in the military will be honored during the parade.

The parade route will be eastbound along Main Street (Alt. U.S. 40) to the intersection with Md. 67.

Held every year since 2002, the parade is sponsored by First Hose Fire Co. of Boonsboro, Boonsboro Station 6 and Rohrersville Substation 8.
