The Mansion House at City Park in Hagerstown will be closed until Sept. 16 because of a problem with, Donna Mason, president of the Valley Art Association, said Tuesday.

Mason said the fleas, which bite people and cover their clothing, are coming from stray cats living under the porch.

The city has fumigated several times, but the fleas return, she said.

This time, the city will work with the Humane Society of Washington County to remove the cats. The city will strip out carpet and fumigate again, Mason said.

The Valley Art Association uses the Mansion House as its headquarters.

The association's new members exhibit reception has been postponed from Sunday to Sept. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m.
