Blazers open season with sweep

CLEAR SPRING - Emily Pinkham had nine aces and Brittany Smetzer added six as Clear Spring swept Hancock 25-10, 25-13, 25-13 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday.

Mandi Jenkins had seven kills, while Katelyn Blickenstaff added nine assists and four digs for the Blazers.

Liberty 3, North Hagerstown 0

Kate Zimmer had six kills and Brooke Powell had eight service points in North Hagerstown's 25-11, 25-18, 25-21 nonconference loss to Liberty.

Tuscarora 3, South Hagerstown 0

FREDERICK, Md. - Katie Moyseenko had 45 assists for South Hagerstown in a 25-17, 28-26, 25-21 nonconference loss to Tuscarora.

Chelsea Weaver had 11 kills, Kaitlyn Beard had 10 service points and Brittany Hyatt had eight kills for the Rebels.

JV: South Hagerstown, 2-0.

FSK 3, Smithsburg 0

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Valerie Smith had 16 assists and Jenny Nalley had 10, but Smithsburg was swept 25-20, 25-17, 25-13 by Francis Scott Key in the season opener for both teams.


Broadfording 3, Heritage 0

Hannah Young had six kills, five digs and four aces to lead Broadfording over Heritage 25-10, 25-20, 25-15 in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game.

Emily Ahalt had five digs and Emily Stransky had six kills for the Lions (2-1, 2-1).

Greencastle 3. Boiling Springs 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Amanda Ritchey led Greencastle with 11 assists and nine aces as the Blue Devils swept Boiling Springs, 25-8, 25-2, 25-7.

Julia Stein and Kaytie Johnson had seven aces apiece while Rochelle Christman added five kills and four aces for Greencastle.

Shalom 3, Fannett-Metal 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rachel Lehman had 12 service points, including eight aces, and six kills to help Shalom Christian Academy edge Fannett-Metal 25-9, 23-25, 27-25, 30-28.

Alexis Witman had 10 service points, five aces and five kills, Kaitlyn Etter had eight service points and five kills and Alyssa Rohrer added 21 assists for Shalom.

JV: Shalom, 25-18, 25-13.

James Buchanan 3, Harrisburg 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Amy Heiser had 16 service points, including nine aces, and seven kills to help James Buchanan open its season with a 25-6, 25-8, 25-4 win against Mid-Penn Capital opponent Harrisburg.

Ashley Zimmerman had 21 assists and Jessica Heiny had 13 digs for the Rockets (1-0, 1-0).

Berkeley Springs 3, Jefferson 0

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Kelsey McCoy had 14 service points and Courtney Jones had nine service points and five kills as Berkeley Springs defeated Jefferson, 25-17, 25-22, 25-11.

Sam Zahnow had 14 assists and Amber Booher added six kills for the Indians.

JV: BS, 25-21, 25-17.

Musselman 3, Hedgesville 0

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Chelsea Wheaton had 12 service points, including three aces, 22 assists and three blocks to lead Musselman to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Hedgesville.

Alyse Custer added 11 kills, five digs and three blocks, Megan Holmes had seven kills and six digs and Stephanie Wood recorded four blocks for the Applemen (8-2).


Heritage 4, Broadfording 0

Steven Barthalow had a goal and three assists as Heritage Academy defeated Broadfording Christian.

Andrew Hendershot, J.R. Dudeck and Cody Butts each added a goal while Travis Barthalow had three saves for the Eagles (1-1-1, 0-1-1).

Jordan Whitt and Pat McConnell each had three saves for the Lions.

Greencastle 8, Trinity 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Treavor Gelsinger scored four goals to lead Greencastle past Trinity in the season opener for both teams.

Evon Wiestling, Jordan Springer, Josh Phillips and Wes Long each scored a goal for the Blue Devils.

Camp Hill 4, James Buchanan 1

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ian Nisley scored three of Camp Hill's four second-half goals in a win over James Buchanan.

Corey Zimmerman scored the only goal for the Rockets off a Dion Lehman assist. James Nardi had nine saves.
