Golf tournament will benefit South athletes



A golf tournament to benefit the Athletic Boosters' Scholarship Fund and Sports Uniform Fund at South Hagerstown High School will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at Beaver Creek Country Club.

The format is a four-person scramble at a cost of $75 per golfer. The fee includes golf, prizes and lunch.

Donations to the scholarship fund also are accepted by mail. Make checks payable to South High Athletic Booster Club and mail to Jim Winters, president, South High Athletic Boosters, 520 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.




SAT prep classes are offered at Goretti



English and mathematics teachers at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown are providing classroom instruction on taking the new SAT tests.

Classes will be held for six weeks, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, from Sept. 18 to Oct. 25.

The cost is $125, including the required text.

Family Night set at Western Heights

Western Heights Middle School will host Family Night on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 7:45 p.m.

Activities include free bingo in the cafeteria and a scholastic book fair in the Media Center.

Admission is free.




Back-to-school nights slated at Smithsburg



SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg Middle School's Back to School nights have been scheduled.

The schedule is:

Grade 7 - Tuesday, Sept. 19

Grade 6 - Wednesday, Sept. 20

Grade 8 - Thursday, Sept. 21

Each presentation begins at 7 p.m.
