Ballet holds tryouts



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company will hold an open audition for dancers for the 2006-07 performance season Saturday, Sept. 9, in the second floor studios at the Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St.

Registration will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., with auditions scheduled from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Dancers should wear convertible tights, and female dancers are requested to bring pointe shoes. Dancers should be at least 8 years old and studying classical ballet at least three times per week. Those of pre-professional or professional level are welcome.

Included in CBT's 2006-07 performance season are "A Nutcracker High Tea" at Corpus Christi Parish Hall on Friday, Nov. 17; plus two weekends of the company's full-length "The Nutcracker" on Saturday, Dec. 9, Sunday, Dec. 10, Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16.

Also included is an all-original "Snow White" ballet, with orchestral score performed with a live orchestra. The fairy-tale classic will take place Friday, Feb. 2, and Saturday, Feb. 3.

CBT's 2006-07 season will conclude with "Ballet's Greatest Hits," a CBT student performance on Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10.

Museum reopens



The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts has reopened for patrons, according to museum Services Coordinator Donna Rastelli.

Renovations are complete and new exhibits are installed. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Monday.

Pa. grants awarded



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Council for the Arts in Chambersburg announces the recipients of the 2006-07 Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Grants.

These grants fund arts projects in Adams, Franklin, Fulton and parts of Cumberland County. The awards were presented Tuesday, Aug. 29, at an awards ceremony at the Council for the Arts.

This year's recipients are CAKE 45, Conococheague Institute, Franklin County Library System, Gettysburg Adventist School, Gettysburg Community Concert Association, Gettysburg Stage, Greencastle Area Arts Council, Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice, McConnellsburg High School musical, Mercersburg Historical Society, Nancy Walker and Jef Savage, Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies, St. Andrew Elementary School, Schmucker Art Gallery, Southern Fulton Drama Club, Trevor Stottlemyer, Waynesboro Community Concert Association and Zorzal Music Ensemble.

Juried shows set



Contemporary School for the Arts & Gallery will host two juried exhibits.

A juried photography show will be held in January 2007. Work can be submitted to the gallery, 4 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown. Deadline for submitting entries is Dec. 10.

There is a $25 nonrefundable application fee and each artist is limited to three pieces. Details of prizes will be announced later. The show will be judged by Dale Swope and Chris Baker.

A juried art show will be held in February 2007. Entry is open to all artists in any fine-art media, such as photography, oil painting, watercolors, sculpture, sketching, chalk, pencil and ink. Work can be submitted to the gallery. The deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, Jan. 10.
