A woman found dead when firefighters arrived at a West Franklin Street fire Friday has been identified through her jewelry and past surgeries as 27-year-old Lindsay Gene Haley, according to a Hagerstown Fire Department news release.

Haley, whose last known address was in a basement apartment at 216 S. Prospect St., was found dead after firefighters began fighting a blaze at 65-67 W. Franklin St. at about 1:45 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the release.

Haley's friends and family said jewelry worn by the previously unidentified woman belonged to Haley, which investigators compared to pictures taken of Haley, the release states.

Haley also had an orthopedic plate and screw implanted in her right ankle, which also was a match. The serial number on the plate was the same, the release states.
