Morris Frock Auxiliary Unit 42, The American Legion, will hold its first meeting of the 2006-07 Auxiliary year on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Post Home at 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown. President Connie Shaffer will call the meeting to order promptly at 7 p.m., with a light meal served at 6:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend and actively participate.

Children's Village golf tournament

Children's Village of Washington County Inc. will host its 12th Annual "Keep our Kids Safe" Four-Man Scramble Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 8, at Black Rock Golf Course. Putting contest begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Dinner will follow the tournament. Entry fee is $95 per person. Corporate sponsor packages are available. Hole and cart sponsors can also support the event.

Midas Muffler of Hagerstown is the tournament sponsor. Volvo Powertrain North America is lead sponsor, with Douglas Motors of Hancock sponsoring the hole-in-one prize car.

Hagerstown Lioness Club

The Hagerstown Lioness Club will meet Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Grand Venice Motel Ballroom, 431 Dual Highway, Hagerstown. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Linda Altizer, MSN, director of National Association of Orthopedic Nurses; a Washington Coounty forensic investigator; and an employee of the Armed Forces Medical Examiners' Services, Rockville, Md. Her topic will be "Fit to a T-Osteoporosis." Also, guests of the Lionesses will be the club's scholarship recipients for the 2005-06 academic year.

All guest reservations and all cancellations must be made no later than Monday evening, Sept. 4, by calling the attendance chair at 301-790-0913. Guests are welcome.

TOPS #77

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Group #77 meets every Monday at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. Weigh-in is set for 7:30 a.m., exercise at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. There is a planned program every week and all visitors are welcome to attend. NHHS Class of 1971 Reunion

The North Hagerstown High School Class of 1971 will hold its 35th-year reunion Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Potomac Fish and Game Club from 2 to 10 p.m. A picnic dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and a cash bar will be available. Cost is $14 per person. The NHHS Class of 1971 is also hosting a NHHS Alumni Homecoming get-together at the North High gym on Friday, Sept. 29, from 9 to 11 p.m. - all NHHS alumni are cordially invited to attend.

Breast cancer screenings

Free breast cancer screenings will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, at the Hagerstown Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church Community Health Fair, 17805 Sherman Ave. from noon to 4 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Community Free Clinic Health Center, 249 Mill St., from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

The free breast cancer screenings through the Maryland Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation offer free breast cancer outreach, education, screening and treatment for Washington County women 18 years of age and older. Collaborators for the free screening include Washington County Health Systems, Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley (formerly Y-Me), Washington County Health Department Breast & Cervical Cancer Program and the Washington County/Hagerstown C-SAFE neighborhood improvement program. Transportation for the clinics is available if needed.

Destination Discovery Gala

Come out and support the Discovery Station at the Destination Discovery Gala, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Discovery Station, 101 W. 'Reaching for the Moon'

The annual "Reaching for the Moon at Milestone Farm" event to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley (formerly Y-Me) will be held at the lovely home of Don and Jone Bowman on Sunday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m.
