WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Waynesboro man was charged Monday with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence for allegedly leaving a man suffering from a drug overdose at the Waynesboro Hospital Emergency Room on May 15, Waynesboro police said.

Police allege Johnathan Eles, 23, of 705 E. Main St., took Gregory Callahan, 22, of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., from the East Main Street home and left him outside the emergency room around 5:25 a.m.

A hospital employee found Callahan, who was pronounced dead and later determined to have died of a drug overdose.

"We conferred with the Franklin County District Attorney's Office and they, along with our department, reviewed everything we had, and this was the recommended charges," Waynesboro Police Chief Ray Shultz said.

Police said Eles removed drugs and drug paraphernalia from his home, but heroin and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle Eles used to transport Callahan.
