Shepherd opens season with win at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Bryan Wright rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Shepherd won its 19th consecutive regular-season game, defeating host Millersville 28-7 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

Shepherd's Dan Chlebowski completed 16 of 21 passes for 153 yards, including a 54-yard scoring strike to Rodney Jackson to give the Rams a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Ram increased their lead to 14-0 when Wright raced 64 yards for a touchdown with 11:58 left in the second quarter.

Shepherd, which led 14-7 at halftime, made it 21-7 when Dervon Wallace, who rushed for a game-high 145 yards on 23 carries, scored on a 2-yard plunge with 7:59 left in the third quarter.

Wright, who rushed for 113 yards on 10 carries, added his second score of the day when he went through the Marauders' defense for a 24-yard touchdown romp with 6:28 left in the game.

Jackson led the Rams' receivers with nine receptions for 120 yards.

Linebacker Louis Corum had a game-high 11 tackles, including nine solo stops, for Shepherd. Senior All-American defensive back Dan Peters and linebacker Todd Edmondson each added six tackles. Peters also recorded the game's only interception.
