Man accused of threatening residents receives probation

A Montgomery County, Md., man charged with threatening some Hagerstown residents with a gun will serve 18 months probation.

According to Washington County District Court records, Hoa Hiep Diep pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit first-degree assault. Charges of possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and accessory after the statute were dropped.

Diep, 20, of Germantown, Md., was accused of driving through a West Side Avenue neighborhood March 13, while a passenger pointed a long gun at residents, according to a charging document.

Diep was sentenced to one year in jail with 11 months and 15 days suspended, and he was placed on 18 months probation, according to court records.
