Suns swept aside

August 25, 2006

SALISBURY, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a three-run fourth inning for a 3-2 victory over Hagerstown in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader, then took a 6-0 lead in the second game and held off the Suns' late rally for a 6-4 win and a sweep.

In the first game, Jonel Pacheco's first-inning homer gave the Suns a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Sanchez singled, stole second and scored on a fielding error in the second inning to make it 2-0.

But Hagerstown starter Jeramy Simmons (1-4) couldn't hold the lead. In the fourth, a walk, hit batter and wild pitch set up RBI singles by Mark Fleisher and Ryan Finan to tie the game, and Corey Shafer's sacrifice fly scored the winning run.

In the second game, the Shorebirds used three-run innings in the third and fifth to take control against Suns starter Zac Clements (0-4).

In the third, Lorenzo Scott's walk and Blake Davis' single set up Zachary Dillon's three-run homer, his third of the season.

In the fifth, Scott again got things started with a walk. Jonathan Tucker singled and Dillon walked to load the bases before Fleisher doubled to left to score all three runners.

Sean Henry hit his first homer with the Suns in the sixth to make it 6-1, and Hagerstown added three more in the seventh when Sean Henry singled in Will Vogl and Leivi Ventura, and Rafael Arroya scored on the play on a fielding error. But Jose Castro struck out to end the game.
