Commissioners meetings to move

August 25, 2006

Meetings of the Washington County Board of County Commissioners will take place at the Department of Water Quality Public Meeting Room at the Public Works Annex building on Elliott Parkway in Williamsport until further notice, according to a county press release.

Work on an elevator at the County Administration Building at 100 W. Washington St. has necessitated moving the meetings. The work could take an additional five weeks to complete, according to the release.

Replacement of the elevator piston was mandated by state and federal regulations. The piston is housed in a casing at the bottom of the elevator shaft, which extends 45 feet into the ground.

Jacks weighing 100 tons are used to remove the casing, which must be replaced. When the jacking operation began, degradation of the elevator pit floor occurred, stalling the project, according to the release.

The Office on Disability Issues may be reached at 240-313-2077 (V/TDD) Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Public Works Annex building is across from DOT Foods on Elliott Parkway.
