Auditions for 'McReele'



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University Theater will hold auditions for "McReele," a new crime thriller that explores honesty, authenticity and personal privacy against a background of race, politics and the media. Youth orchestra seeks new players



FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra will hold auditions on Monday, Aug. 28, at Frederick Church of the Brethren.

The orchestra is looking for string, brass, woodwind and percussion players to come and audition for its new season.

Orchestra members are upper elementary through high school students who attend public or private schools in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as students from home-school settings.

Rehearsals are Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for the intermediate orchestra and from 6:45 to 9 p.m. for the senior orchestra and symphonic band. Rehearsals take place at Frederick Church of the Brethren, Second Street and Fairview Avenue, across from Schifferstadt Museum.

Schedule an audition from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28. There is a $10 nonrefundable audition fee for new members. A small number of need-based scholarships are available.

CATF fund created



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd University Foundation has established an endowment with the Contemporary American Theater Festival. The fund will support CATF programs and will be released as determined by the CATF board of directors.

Stephen Skinner, CATF president, views the endowment as a means of generating operating support and encouraging additional gifts.

The Contemporary American Theater Festival was started as a nonprofit summer theater festival housed at Shepherd University and produced and directed by Ed Herendeen, professor and director of theater.

Show seeks talent



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Cumberland Valley Sampler, a subsidiary of Chambersburg Community Theatre Inc. is searching for area talent to perform in its musical variety show, "Salute to Time." The event of family-friendly entertainment will be presented at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Capitol Theatre.

There are openings for vocalists: preschoolers, elementary students, teens and adults (all ages). There will be two rehearsals in addition to the day of the show. CVS also is looking for local entertainment groups that would like to perform as part of the show.

Gallery will sell new Knstler print



Benjamin Art Gallery, LLC will present the world premiere of Mort Kunstler's latest image entitled "Maryland, My Maryland." Meet Mort Kunstler from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the gallery, 1303 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Contact the gallery to reserve the new Knstler print. The image and edition size have not yet been determined. The unframed paper prints cost $225 and the unframed canvas prints cost $575.

Festival set for Sept.



CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The Charles Town Heritage Festival, to be held this year from Sept. 21 to 24, is seeking vendors and groups interested in participating in the downtown arts and crafts festival.

Events included in the festival include an antique appraisal fair; African American history exhibits; the Taste of West Virginia culinary event; Revolutionary and Civil War entertainment; period games for the children; and an arts and crafts festival in the streets of Charles Town.

The festival is looking for arts and crafts persons and groups interested in providing food and beverages for the festival. A $20 non-refundable application fee must accompany the application in order for it to be considered.

Chorale auditions



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University's Masterworks Chorale will hold auditions for the new season. Auditions are open to everyone and consist of vocal exercises.

The chorale practices are at 7:30 p.m. Mondays in Shepherdstown. Concerts for the upcoming season will be Sunday, Nov. 12; Saturday, Dec. 2; Sunday, Dec. 3; and Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Those interested in joining should attend the group's rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the rehearsal hall of Frank Center. Sign-ups for auditions will be available at that rehearsal. Call Erik Reid Jones at 304-876-5371.




Acting auditions



Potomac Playmakers will hold auditions for Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella," directed by Ruth Ridenour, on Friday, Aug. 25. Performers are needed to fill assorted roles and musical ensemble.
