"I have a family member who is a nurse and when the pharmacutical reps come in they bring the entire medical office a huge catered lunch. Next they bring them hundreds of samples along some really nice things. She's gotten everything from watches, baskets filled with things, radios, small TV's, timers, jewelry, insulin pens, insulin, etc. (she's not diabetic), medical supplies, cameras, calulators, towels, beach things such as rafts etc., silverwear, etc. Sure some of these things might have a medicine logo somewhere on them but so what. What does most of these things have to do with showing a doctor new meds? Nothing that's what - so don't think that these reps aren't ripping off the systems along with the doctors. Someone has to pay for all these luxury items and it ain't the doctors!"

"I am a member of the Chewsville community and I can say that we are a close group of people. I can also say that there is no broken fence in this town. I do not appreciate the publishing of made-up stories, but thank you for making me run all over creation looking for 'lost' cows."

"For seven working days, Greenberry Road has been closed at the intersection with Virginia Avenue up to Manse Road. There is an open cut through the road and my question is, what are they doing in the small trench that requires traffic to detour in or out of the development? County, state, utility company, somebody please - what's going on? And with all of this there are no advance warnings signs. I hope someone notified the emergency departments."

"If you have a companion animal, that means that he or she is supposed to be living with you inside your home, but if you have to have them outside in the hot weather (however plush the circumstances you think you've created for them), make sure that it's in the shade and they have an adequate supply of cool water. Otherwise, you're probably tempting God to subject you to the same kind of treatment that you're subjecting your companion animals to."

"What a shame - there is so much shame in this column. Every day I read 'Shame on you.' 'It's a shame,' 'What a shame'. Shame, shame, shame. I have to wonder how are the children of these people going to live fulfilling lives with all this shame. It's a crying shame."

"When I drive on Alt. Route 40 at night on my way home from working second shift, a lot of cars are blowing their horn at me and wanting me to go faster, but I'm not gonna do it, because two nights in a row I saw deer on that road. If I hit a deer, I'd rather be going 25, 30 mph than going 50 mph. So they're just gonna have to pass me, because I'm not gonna drive the speed limit."

"On the topic of pharmaceuticals sales people, one of my neighbors is a salesperson, and he is given a company vehicle with a gas card for personal use, and everything is paid for by the pharmaceutical company. Who do you think is paying for that? Take a guess."

"This is about the people hollering about schools with no air conditioning and no cafeteria. When I was a child, I walked 3 miles to school in Shady Grove, Pa. We had a pot-bellied stove for heat, an outside bathroom and outside water, and we lived through it. We're living today yet. People are too spoiled today, that's one thing that's the matter with them. If they went through the Depression and things that we older people went through, and had to suffer through it, they'd be living in heaven now, compared to what we lived."

"Before you go to the polls, stop and remember the deficit we had when our former Gov. Glendening and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend left office. Mayor Martin O'Malley had then requested millions of dollars for a drug program for Baltimore City and for his schools at that time. If Martin O'Malley gets to be governor of Maryland, you can guess where our taxpaying money will go: His programs in Baltimore City. His schools are among the worst. Get out and vote."

"I see about another inmate escaping from the hospital and killing two people. This might sound cruel and inhumane, but I think unless it's a matter of life and death, I don't think inmates should go to the hospital. This guy went there for a sprained wrist and ankle. Put an Ace bandage around it and send him back to his cell. This is getting ridiculous. People are in jail for a reason - because they couldn't cope in society. They like it in jail - then leave them in jail. We're putting people's lives at risk. This is getting totally out of hand. Treat them at the jail."

"I was just reading this letter to the editor in Monday's paper. This person must have a nice job and lots of money. Gas prices are not going down - they're steady around $3 a gallon. The war in Iraq is a total sham. There are 100 Iraqis getting killed a day and 2 to 4 soldiers getting killed a day. Does it sound like the world's in great shape? I don't feel any safer. Do you?"
