From the principal

Q. What are the biggest challenges this year?

A. Our biggest challenge will be meeting the demands of No Child Left Behind as our student population continues to grow and our student mobility rate continues to increase.

Q. What are your goals for the school year?

A. We have several goals: lowering our dropout rate to less than 1 percent and meeting the Annual Yearly Progress standards on the Maryland High School Assessments are two of our basic goals.

Q. What will help ensure a successful school year?

A. Teamwork will help ensure that our students are successful.

That means that if we can have parents, teachers, students and staff working together for the benefit of our students and our school, we will have a very successful school year.

Q. What message would you like to send as the school year begins?

A. Enjoy the remainder of your summer; please do some reading for pleasure and intellectual conditioning; and come to school on Aug. 23 with a positive attitude and ready to learn.

Q. What special projects will occur during the school year?

A. South Hagerstown High School will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and we hope the students, alumni and South High community all participate in the celebration.

Also, South Hagerstown High will be the first high school to participate in Maryland's free breakfast program.

Every SHHS student will receive a free breakfast every day. We hope this will help ensure that students are focused and attentive.
